Thanks
to John and Steve and Rick and Eric and a bunch of other folks,
my little studio has started recording. While I have a million
little details left to do, I don’t think they’d show up very
much in pictures, so this will be the last update.
I’ve
run a couple of sessions in the room, and it is sounding wonderful.
With
this first picture, I wanted to be clear about my slot resonators.
They are angled to avoid echos bouncing back and forth in the
small space. It didn’t show well in the previous photos, but
it is a crucial part of the room.

Now
onto the World’s Ugliest Desk….
Here
it is in all its ahem, glory. The right pedestal is a 19” rack
with two drawers in it, as well as some other equipment. The
left pedestal is a computer silencing cabinet of my own design.
I’m going to go into more detail on that, because I think there
is some interest in it. The top of the desk is a solid core
door, cut to size. The keyboard rest is adjustable, and can
be pushed inside the desk opening.

Here’s
a shot of the right pedestal.

Here
is a closer shot of the left pedestal. Note the air intakes
on the right side, near the back, up high. The air is driven
with fans through the box through sound baffles on each side.

Here
is the box with the door open. Note the abundance of 1” thick
muslim wrapped 703 rigid fiberglass.

The
front pillow just sits in the opening. To get to the computer,
pop the pillow out.

Here’s
a closeup of the fans on the right side. They are low and to
the front – not in a direct path with the air intake. On the
left side, near the back, there are exit fans up high. The final
air output goes from the left side in the lower front.

In
my little studio, I need to use every inch (or centimeter).
I have a small area for microphone stands beside the corner
bass absorber in the back.

Here’s
a closeup view of the microphone stand storage area.

Here
are the shots of the overall studio. Here’s the front section.

Here’s
the left back section.

Here’s
the right back section.

And
here’s the obligatory low across the faders promo shot.

Thanks
again, everyone! And special thanks to John for hosting this
site.
Lee
