I was thinking about the slats today,
I was wondering, does anyone know a good thread about where it's more correct to place them?

I'm thinking if i should use slats on the backwalls of the control room as well?
From the majority of the designs i've seen here, the walls begin to be absorptive beyond the "sweet spot" listening position.

but I've also seen this studio that i can't seem to find now here... (attached photos) somewhere around here.
Are the slats in the backwall used because of the limited size of the space just to resonate on specific frequencies to absorb standing waves? Or is there a reflection role there as well?

Btw i'm kind of fond of this place, it looks very warm and cosy besides it's size :) . I've got it saved in my reference pics as you can see..

Vakis - that studio is Blue Bear - it was the first studio that I designed for an overseas client in Canada.

The slots were made from plywood sheets with a veneer on one side - 8' x 4' - the slats were then cut to the required widths on a bench saw. It's an effective way of having a nice timber finish at a low cost.

That's a great idea, haven't thought of that.

I was thinking of using oak, but I'm still waiting for a quote.
Also got a quote on swedish pine for 250 Euros for my entire requirement.

I'm curious about what kind of wood you usually use for slats?

I was curious of using slats on my back walls, because my peculiar backwalls.
Cause the room isn't a perfect square. Do you think i should just go with my original plan with just rockwool and cloth on top?

Thank you John.

Vakis

In your case I'd go with the leaning forward rear wall we talked about before. What are you putting on the side walls?

On the front side walls, I'm going to put slats, and on the back sidewalls, just cloth covering the rockwool.

Btw I've read from a person on this forum (sorry can't remember who), that the slats actually just work as high freq. reflectors. And if i remember correctly he said that the size and spacing didn't actually matter at all, because of that.
And said that putting them in a random spacing won't do that much difference, it will still be a broadband absorber and high freq reflector.

But from what i see at the majority of building here, they calculate the slat size and spacing. And this is also supported in Rod's book.

I've seen lots of contradicting info on this forum, maby I just need to study more.

But I'd like your opinion on the subject if you have the time of course.

According to what I've read so far. If I make departments that are caulked-seperated from the rest of the building.
The slats will resonate on specific frequencies and absorb them from touching the rockwool.
That's what i comprehend. I chose this cause the majority of evidence seem to point this way.

[EDIT]
Found it. Apparently he was talking about this if you did not partition the slat sector from the rest of the room.
So I just answered myself:P

Hey there!

Anyone knows a thread showing the construction of an angled wall? Like the one in the illustration above.
I've tried searching but no luck...

I'm trying to see how to construct it whilst also being supported well and i'm having some difficulty.. :roll:

Thanks!

Heya,

We finished the backwall of the control room with a friend. I had to improvise and make a construction on the ceiling so that the slanted backwall could be well positioned and for it to be solid.

So here's some pics:)

Though I'd post a few pics of the spotlights I'm going to use.
I'm thinking of making holes for screws on them cause the current fitting doesn't seem very reliable.
They have a tight fit but it's not really solid. You can see from the pics...

They are LED spotlights with a warm white color

Specs:
* LED Installation emitter with 25 light emitting diodes
* Ideally, e.g., for campers, boats etc...
* Color: WARM WHITE
* Base: Brushed high-grade steel
* Voltage: 12V DC
* Installation depth: ca. 25 mm
* External diameter: Ø 72 mm
* Inner diameter: Ø 60 mm
* Power: only ca. 1,5 Watt
* With protective glass
* Very long life span of ca. 50.000 operating hours (in comparison to glow luminous means with only ca. 2.000 operating hours)
* LED lamps do not become hot, therefore no fire risk exists

And here's the company from which i bought them for anyone interested:
