Post subject: another 20 x 20 x 10 garage design. would this work?
PostPosted: Wed Apr 09, 2003 1:51 am
Would this design work. It's a 20 x 20 garage (new construction home) with 10 foot ceilings. I record and mix mostly R&B and Rap, but I also will get into mastering. I would like to soffit-mount a set of monitors(thinking about Mackie HR824's). and my Halfer M5's on the desk for mixing, but if I need too, I'll get a third set of monitors just for mastering(where should they be placed?) I'll try to post a better photo but I just moved in and only have the laptop to work with.

thanks

nukmusic the geometry of your control room is not correct. To soffit mount you need a certain geometry. Have you checked out the Studio plans at the SAE site http://www.saecollege.de/reference_material/index.html

also go to the Studios Under Construction site http://johnlsayers.com/Studio/index.htm and there are plans and studios being built.

cheers
John

thanks what I thought, Just the reason I asked after exploring this forum. What would you recommend? It's a 20 x 20 x 10 garage. I need a half bath for clients(can't have everyone in the rest of the house  ). I would like a nice control room and really only needed one vocal booth. Something good for mixing and if possible also nice for mastering. Thanks

Yes sir........I was reading them and still am. Thanks maybe I'll just let the professionals do it. (I have your website) not saying that I don't want to learn, because I try to take in as much info as possible.

20 X 20 garage(interior measurements)
I've read and started from square one. So far I have added the half bath(laundry room to the rear of toilet...easy plumbing joining). and the outside entrance door at the bottom-right. Door next to bath is existing door into house from garage. I have added the wall to the studio by offsetting them with a four inch air gap. The wall that covers the garage door will be six inches and offset 12 inches(6 inches from garage door) from main wall. I will continue to read and study the "Control Room" section. If I understand it right, I have to make the angles 60 degrees???

Actually - you don't need the double wall along the bottom do you?

cheers

no I wouldn't with your design. I may not need some of the double wall to the right of the outside entrance door either. The house is all new contruction and has all brick exterior. After add the bath, double walls, and 4" air gaps this is what I'm left with.
